Short Term Disability & Pregnancy

I’ve been trying to get an answer to my situation for weeks and my company’s HR is unhelpful and so is the insurance customer service line. Here’s my situation : 1. I applied for Short Term Disability on November 16,2021. Coverage starts December 1. I filled out an EOI. It asked if I was pregnant. I checked “no.” I was NOT pregnant. I have not been told if I was approved nor have I seen deductions in my paychecks yet. 2. A few days later- probably around Nov 20, I get pregnant (obvi I didn’t know this until I took a test a few weeks later but that’s when the “deed” was done. 3. Doctor’s offices start the pregnant count at the first day of your last period (which was November 9). So that day is considered my first day of pregnancy according to them.

I’m trying to figure out: 1. If I will be approved for Short Term Disability when I eventually file a claim after having baby. They will back trace and could say “hey you were pregnant before coverage started and therefore had a pre-existing condition that wasn’t approved”. 2. Can you cancel short term disability whenever you want or is this typically done only in open enrollment periods? The customer service lady says this depends on the company (I haven’t received an answer back from my HR on this because they don’t respond to emails or calls and I work remote 1,000 miles away).

Any advice is appreciated.
