Hey all,
Brand new to the sub and happy to see it exists!
I’m in a bit of a pickle and was hoping someone knew of a solution that I haven’t thought of. This post is going to be a bit long winded because my situation is kinda bizarre so bare with me. I’ll throw a TLDR at the bottom.
I’m 26 years old, very recently divorced, and just graduated Physician Assistant school. I’m currently employed as a part time Paramedic and a full time Emergency Department Scribe. I have ADHD and take Vyvanse. Up until just this week, I was insured under my spouse – with the finalizing of our divorce last month, she (rightfully so) booted me off. I had hoped to of landed a Physician Assistant job with benefits by now but thanks to COVID, the market is especially awful for new graduates. My full time job does NOT offer ANY insurance benefits. They give a $200 stipend onto our (rather low) pay to help off set the cost of covering yourself. My part time Paramedic position also does not offer any type of health benefits for part time employees.
My medication with my old insurance was $80 a month and definitely manageable. Now that I’ve lost insurance, I did GoodRX which brought the cost from $980+ to $358ish. Unfortunately, I can’t really afford to swing the $358 EACH MONTH. I checked the website and spoke with my pharmacy and their manufacturers coupon won’t work for my situation/save me anything. I looked up some short term plans last night and really didn’t find anything that covers scripts (especially a brand name only script) that would be cheaper than $358 monthly. Am I looking in the wrong spots? Does this exist? The marketplace is insane and wants me to pay through the nose for anything that will cover it. My state medicaid does not typically cover the medication either. I really only need something to get me through the next few months until I can land a PA job with benefits.
The medication has become a staple in my life and helps me with much more then just focus. It’s done a lot for mood stabilization and honestly, I don’t want to get off of it. I absolutely can go back to Adderall but the side effects sucked. I understand it’s short term and I can absolutely suck it up but thought I’d toss a hail mary out here to see if there was anyone who knew something I maybe didn’t think of?
TLDR; I’m on a brand name only medication with no insurance coverage and am trying to find a short term insurance plan that will cover scripts + be cheaper than $358/month.
