Should I wait to get a bill from the provider to pay?

I (39m – NY) have a HDHP plan with an HSA (through Aetna). I visited a doctor on 7/30 and a Physical Therapist on 8/5, with bills of about $350 each (‘your total cost’). I see the claims in Aetna and in my HSA account, but I was advised by a friend that I should wait for a bill from the provider to pay it. He says the provider might never send a bill and then I’ll be out scott free…

This sounds suspect… I see options in Aetna to pay the bill, and options in my HSA to send payment… Should I just pay it without having received a bill from the provider?

EDIT: As per auto-mod adding 11590 zipcode, and income is 125k/year
