Signed up for the wrong ACA insurance plan that doesn’t cover my doctor. Am I screwed? (AZ)

I have a GI disease where I get $1,000’s infusions every 8 weeks. I haven’t been able to hold down a decent job since getting sick with this last year, and COBRA just ran out, so I signed up for a United gold HMO ACA plan that said my GI doctor is in-network.

Yesterday I called my doctor. Despite a United rep and the ACA site telling me they do, they don’t accept it. However, the doctor DOES accept another ACA plan, CIGNA Connect 2500 HMO. My doctor thought they only cover 60% though, so I’ll call them tomorrow and see if that’s true.

I’m paying with unemployment and life savings. The hope is that I get into remission soon after starting this med so I can get a job with decent insurance. I’d consider Medicaid, but my infusion company (Janssen/Remicade) has a copay assistance program where your copay is $5 but ONLY if you have private insurance – not Medicaid. Plus this is a new medicine I’m switching to since the last one, Entyvio, stopped working. I lost COBRA on the 26th, and this plan started the 1st.

QUESTION: I’ve read that I have until the 15th for open enrollment. Can I switch? Obviously I’ll keep this for the month to avoid having nothing at all. Also, is this the best I can do? Should I go through a broker? They don’t have any protections and could just deny my sick ass, right?
