Sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Trying to figure out the best insurance options.

My brother-in-law has the resources to take her outside the system and they’ve decided to go to Johns Hopkins for treatment. She’s a state employee and her insurance should cover some of her bills but certainly not all of them.

So we’d like to see what other options are available to us.

For example, could we add a secondary insurance (since we’re in the pandemic-extended open enrollment period?) that will cover what her primary insurance doesn’t?

Or failing that, switch her to a plan that will cover more. Or maybe some other thing that we haven’t even considered?

He’s not so rich that money isn’t a consideration, but he makes enough that he can do what’s necessary to make this easier on them as the treatment options proceed.

I’m trying to take this off their plate as much as possible, because he’s overwhelmed and she’s very upset since this just happened a couple of weeks ago.

But there’s SO much to consider, and so many options, it’s kind of overwhelming. Can anyone help me figure out the roadmap towards getting them the best possible coverage?
