I’ll try to make this quick –
I’m 43, been having a bit of pain in my right hip and it has me starting to really worry, been about a month now. Honestly the pain isn’t the issue, it’s being scared of the big C word, my girlfriend was just diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, and I need to be able to take care of her and the animals.
Moved from Oregon about 8 months ago, I lost my job there and had insurance through the state. Still unemployed as I’ve been caring for her (she also has advanced crohns disease, it takes a lot of time).
My concerns are these – I own my house outright, I don’t want to lose it. I have great credit, I don’t want to lose it. I have investments that are not liquid cash and that’s all I have for retirement right now, I don’t want to lose that.
Because my bills are low (I own the house and the car outright), I’ve used my investments to pay the few bills I do have for the last two years. The only options I see on the Marketplace are hundreds a month and $7k+ in deductibles before insurance does a thing. That’s like $12k a year before I get any financial relief. Is that really the only option I have?
I see being a male, Texas has zero options for health care assistance. Basically you have to be elderly, female, or have kids to qualify.
Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you.
