Hello,
I have to travel to Taiwan sometime this year to get a surgical procedure done. I have to go to Taiwan because the surgeon there is the only specialist in the world that does what I need to get done. I live in the US and if I could do it here then I would.
In order for me to gain entry into Taiwan, their embassy requires a travel letter from my health insurance that explicitly states that my health insurance will cover me in the event I get Covid and that at least $30,000 USD in medical expenses related to treatment are covered.
I called BCBS and they would only give me a generic travel letter. It did not explicitly say what Taiwan needs it to say in regards to Covid coverage. The people I spoke to in the customer service line were not helpful at all. They just stated that they aren’t allowed the change the wording of the travel letter and they left it at that. I called several times asking them what can be done but they were not willing to take any extra step to get me the letter I needed. I finally asked for a supervisor who again was not helpful. I had to keep talking to them to try to find a solution and finally I suggested to make a special request to their legal team to issue the letter and the supervisor agreed to try.
It has now been 3 weeks and I haven’t heard back. I have called them 3 times asking for an update and none of my calls are being returned.
The people in the customer service line act like they don’t give a shit about my problem at all and that they can’t be bothered to help me out in any way. My experience with them so far as been very poor.
I will place a 4th call to them at the end of this week to follow up. If they keep up this inadequate level of assistance then does anyone have any ideas on what else I can do to get the help I need?
