I have Tricare select. I had an eye doctor appointment and they didn’t charge me for the contact exam and said to just wait until they bill it. Usually I pay the full price on the spot, so I logged into Tricare out of curiousity to see if I could pay it yet, and noticed I had three claims denied in 2020, totaling about $700. On each claim denial/EOB, it says patient liability $0 and “amount your provider may bill you” $0. I don’t remember receiving an EOB in the mail but it’s possible I missed it. The reason for being denied says “The provider who performed this service was not Tricare certified at the time of service”. The clinic I went to does take Tricare and reassured me when I went.
I don’t have an outstanding balance on the patient portal for my doctor or a bill on Tricare’s website. I pulled my credit and nothing was sent to collections. Is it possible that my clinic decided to just eat the cost since it was likely their mistake? It says “provider accepted assignment” on the EOB I found online. I just want to make sure I’m not going to suddenly get my tax refund seized years down the line. It’s too late to appeal it since I didn’t notice in time. I paid a $20 copay but the clinic refunded it for some reason in 2021. I’m not super keen on calling the clinic to ask and reminding them I owe them $700, but if it’s the right thing to do, I will. Thank you!
