Trying not to think the worst

So. I am very fortunate to have excellent insurance. My co insurance/ copays are very low. An acupuncturist I had been seeing regularly suddenly started charging me more than the co insurance listed on my insurance billings. Since I had been seeing them regularly I had kept my card on file with them to auto process. #1 they didnt talk to me about any additional charges before they started charging more #2 when I brought it up they said that since my insurance reimbursement was lower than the rate for cash payments, they needed to charge me more to make up for it. I’ve done some googling and opened every single claim on my insurance website to understand co insurance, allowed amounts and balance billing. I feel like is this borderline fraud, and at the very least massively unprofessional. Am I overreacting to this, or is it as serious as i believe it to be?
