Hi everyone!
I (20 F) know nothing about the health care system, and I’m hoping to get some advice or insight on this. I’m currently on my father’s Tricare Prime plan, and I turn 21 in June therefore I’m not able to continue his insurance. They have an extension for college students that goes until 23, and I was planning on taking advantage of this. Unfortunately one of the qualifiers says that the sponsor (my father) has to be covering at least 50% of my expenses.
We don’t have a relationship, I haven’t seen him in 5 years and I cover 100% of my expenses, so I don’t think I qualify. I can get health insurance through my employer, their enrollment isn’t until October. I didn’t think of enrolling last year because I figured you couldn’t have two plans at once, a bad choice on my end. Health insurance is something I need, I take prescriptions for Bipolar disorder and go to DBT therapy every week. It’s not something I can afford to lose. Any guidance is greatly appreciated, thank you!
Edit: I live in South orange county, CA zip code 92694, my income is less than $20,000.
