My employer switched from Anthem to UHC this year.
This is not exactly a question, but I’m wondering if anyone here is familiar with their pharmacy/medication coverage.
I have HSA with $6,100 deductible with UHC. When we were with Anthem, I also had HSA and high deductible but had less “issues” with my asthma meds because they always covered them at 100% even if I did not meet the deductible in all in-network pharmacies in our area
Now that our insurance was switched to UHC, I now have to pay $18.50 co pay for a generic albuterol inhaler (in-network). When I was trying to check how much it would cost me *in case* when it comes that I needed some steroid inhaler again, I was getting price that is almost $200 (even of it says “covered” in their website). The app and website won’t even allow me to compare between pharmacies – how much it would cost me. I used to be able to do this with the Anthem website and app. I’d hate to bother the pharmacy tech just to ask the price before picking up the medication. I know they are very busy folks.
This is really frustrating me. I tried to do a research and it appears that UHC does not consider asthma meds preventive/maintenance while Anthem does. What UHC considers as “preventive” and maintenance seems to be extremely skeletal (I downloaded a pdf documents from their site). This is such a joke for the biggest insurer in the US.
Does anyone here have advice how to navigate the UHC app/website better? Or have any tips to maximize savings?
