So, I just finally got the updated information for my current insurer (UnitedHealthcare), and discovered that the only pharmacy they will support for buying OTC testing at zero upfront cost is Walmart.
Walmart is famously not found in any part of NYC. And the policy states that it doesn’t apply to ordering from Walmart online, and even if someone found the transit/time to drive out of state or further into Long Island, United claims that there isn’t a reliable way to know if there will be any stock when you arrive.
Yes, this is a small inconvenience, but I know that for much of my adult life before changing career paths, having to front $120 and wait 20 business days for any reimbursement wouldn’t have been a trivial thing at all, let alone during a pandemic.
