I recently decided to take action with an addiction I’ve struggled with for a few years. I signed my self up and began attending an IOP Intensive Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Program and use my employee insurance. Unbeknownst to me, our third party administrator provided my employer with copies of my drug and alcohol treatment EOB’s to our administrator which just so happens to be our CFO and not a trained HR professional. He promptly went into our presidents office and asked him and our Vice President if this was a reimbursable event. The EOB stated the name of the provider and listed several drug screens I took. I’m new at this company and devastated that my personal struggles have been shared with the top company officials. I truly didn’t think it was legal for my insurance company or anyone associated with my health insurance to supply any of my private medical treatment to anyone I work with. Has anyone heard of this happening before?
