I’m trying to help someone get onto gov health insurance and off of their parent’s health insurance. They are low income and their parents health insurance (through their job) has a huge deductible so this person can’t actually use it. But there are gov options that could actually let them go to the dr which they desperately need for both physical and mental heath issues.
What happens when you get off of someone else’s insurance and get your own? How/when would they find out? Is this something that will cause penalties to either party? I’m asking because this person is essentially estranged from their parents and safety is a legitimate concern (sharing of address etc) Anything that could blow things up will so before helping them with this I want to make sure it will be safe for them to do this and won’t cause them further mental distress.
age: 22
income: estimating $10 – $20k
location: IL 60007
