Hello. I need help picking insurance for 2022. Currently I am on my mom’s plan that she has through the marketplace. I don’t really want to stay on her plan anymore because we live in different states now and also we have a strained relationship.
However, My mom doesn’t want to take me off her plan for whatever reason (she won’t explain why). Would I get in trouble when I go to file my taxes if I’m still technically on her insurance but have my own?
Also, I started a serving job and was offered part time health benefits. It says it’s not insurance and does not meet the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the ACA. Does that mean I would be eligible for subsidies if I got my own plan on the marketplace?
So I guess my question is : which do I go with? Do I have to stay on my moms to avoid penalty, go with the job related insurance, or should I see what’s available for me on the marketplace?
Sorry if all this is confusing and thanks for reading!
