My new employer is offering health insurance that comes with a health savings account.
I have read that HSA funds can be used for medical tourism.
If I book a flight to Mexico to have my root canals fixed, does the flight qualify as a HSA expense? What if I stay in Mexico for 2 weeks, but only go to the doctor on one day, spending the remaining days sightseeing? Would this trip still qualify?
And what about domestic travel? If I take a flight out of state to do an eye exam (which I could also do in my home town), does this then qualify as a medical trip?
How strict are the rules around this?
