Why I have to contact WHOLE FOODS and not the HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY?

So I worked at Whole Foods and not only was it a horrific experience, but they also signed me up for 2 forms of health insurance automatically without my consent.

I only found out as I was about to leave the company and they must have been leaching from my paychecks, which they said they hadn’t taken from them, (worked there for a year) but it made sense they were because I had worked overtime and I never seemed to get paid for it. (Was just taking care of this before I just quit.)

That’s not what I’m here for though. I’m here because I just called Blue Cross about a EOB they sent me, which made me aware of the insurance in the first place to make SURE I owe them NOTHING. I went to the hospital because the soap they had me using at WF made my hands break out and inflame and I had my own insurance, so they took care of it and I had full coverage, but BCBS also tried to send me an EOB like I said, which I had never seen in my life so I thought it was a bill for 1k and it freaked me out.

I called them today, quit almost a year ago, but it always bothered me and I wanted to make sure they sent me something saying I owe them NOTHING and there is a 0 balance, but when I contacted billing, they said that I had to contact *Whole Foods HR* to make sure I didn’t owe anything. What the ACTUAL fuck is this? I still don’t understand it. I asked her to repeat it 3 times. Can someone please help me understand why I have to contact my previous EMPLOYER and not the HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY about that? “We don’t take payments.” She says. WHAT?

I don’t want my job in my personal business, I don’t want them knowing about my claims or my health in general, it’s none of their DAMN business, and why would it be? That’s between me and my doctor, and reluctantly, my health insurance, DEFINITELY NOT my employer. Part of me reaching out is because I am IRATE, but I’m really hoping someone can explain this to me, why do I have to reach out to HR!?! Fucking invasive.

Can you imagine? “Hey Lisa, how was that colonoscopy and misc you had last Sunday? By the way, we need you to work ASAP, and I know they said you’d be out a week, but we were sure hoping you’d be back in 2 days. Thanks! -Signed, HR.”
