I am going to be starting allergy immunotherapy and I need an epipen in case I have a reaction. From other people who have them, I know they come in a box of two and last about a year. My doctor’s office sent the prescription as a 90 day so that it multiplied my copay by 3. I called them back and asked if they could change it to a shorter duration, instead they are now sending it direct to Kaleo the maker of Auvi-Q. They say i can get it for only $25 even though Auvi-Q is non formulary.
Why is my doctors office writing an epipen prescription as 90 days? Most likely the box will sit in the drawer for a year and not be used.
