Wife charged extra at OBGYN for asking about breast soreness during ‘routine’ pregnancy check in.

My wife just entered 3rd trimester, and has been going fairly regularly to Dr. based on her age.

Here understanding is these are routine check ups, which do not require a copay, and that has been the case for our other 2 young children. (Our insurance and benefits have not changed).

The office was not charging a copay at the time of the visit, but we got a bill recently for about 6 $60 copays.

We called, and apparently, the visit went from “routine” to “non routine”, requiring a copay, when my wife brought up questions about hemeroids and breast tenderness, when asked by the doctor if she had any questions.

I’ve told her this is BS, and to let the insurance company know what this office is up to. Unfortunately we’re later in the pregnancy and wife doesn’t want to change, which I understand.

Any advice on handling this nonsense?
