Wife needs surgery, just got job offer at new company

I carry my family on my insurance. Wife has ongoing problem and she’s meeting with the surgeon on Friday for a consultation and scheduling. It’s been deemed necessary by her specialist. Well I just got a job offer that would begin in ~2 weeks if I take it. And a gap of ~2 weeks till new insurance is active.

What pitfalls are we looking at? If her surgery is 6 weeks from now, does new insurance have to cover it? Is this something COBRA would be ideal for?

As I understand most employer health policies cover per-existing. Also my kid is Type-1 so we can’t make mistakes.

I’ve asked new company for a copy of their benefits. Just getting a little nervous as I consider this move.

Thanks for any tips or advice!
