I’m based in California and was transported by an emergency ambulance service in 2021 that is out of network to an in-network hospital. Through my insurance (Oscar Platinum 90 EPO via Covered California), I am supposed to only pay a $150 copayment for emergency medical transportation regardless of whether it is in-network or out of network. The ambulance service sent a bill for $2500, but my insurance only paid for $500 so they sent me a bill directly for $2000. My insurance does not seem willing to pay the provider anymore.
In this scenario, would this California Department of Managed Health Care require my insurance to pay the remaining balance or at least more than their initial payment to satisfy the ambulance service?
