Finding out the out-of-pocket costs of upcoming surgery has been an uphill battle!

Long story short, my surgeon claimed that an upcoming surgery will be “totally” covered, but a really well-informed lady at Cigna (my insurance provider) told me that I’d first need to meet my deductible (which I already knew) and then Cigna will only cover 80% of the surgery (totally different story than what my surgeon told me).

Now I want to know EXACTLY what my out-of-pocket costs will be because I do not want to be blindsided. I called Cigna, and the first time, they said that I need “CPT codes” and “diagnosis codes” to determine the cost of the surgery. OK, got those from my surgeon. I called back, and now they said they need the “Tax ID” from the facility I’m getting my surgery done at (which they didn’t mention they needed the first time!) I tried calling the facility, but they’re closed at the moment.

Geez! It shouldn’t be this much of an uphill battle just to get the out-of-pocket cost of my surgery, should it? Perhaps I’m ignorant to all this stuff, but I figured since my insurance already approved my surgery (my surgery needed to be approved by the folks at Cigna), all the codes/Tax ID/other pertinent info should already be on my file, no?
