Out of Network Payment – Mini Rant

I don’t have a question this time but just want to point out how stupid it is that Insurance providers are sending payments for Out of Network providers in the form of a check to the PATIENT. Then as the patient I have to endorse and send the check to the provider (per provider’s instructions). Which would be fine if we weren’t in the middle of pandemic with a crippled postal system. Oh and they keep harassing me about the whereabouts of the check, saying we will send you to collections every other day. I call them multiple times a week to get a damn note in their system that the check is in transit as they asked for it to be.

The check I forwarded to my provider is “IN TRANSIT” with the USPS with priority mail for ages. And the check will expire at the end of March. Which I hope is enough time for that piece of mail to make it to its destination but from what I understand USPS is months behind on mail pieces.

So what then? Do we start this whole charade again when the check is expired??? JUST PAY THE PROVIDER WHO SENT THE CLAIM – HOW HARD IS THAT???

Is there any logic to this behavior??? Help me make sense of it please.
