UHC is not covering a Medically Necessary product that has been covered by many Ins companies before

My husband has been dealing with for years. His vision is worse and he is almost legally blind in one eye. We have always had the insurance company cover his hard contact lenses by saying they are medically necessary. He has a new plan that he went to see a corneal specialist this morning and he told my husband that he has Keratoconus!! Duh! Then he said that it’s not covered by insurance. I found this doctor through our medical insurance companyUNITED HEALTH CARE!!. He is an in network provider. Can someone advise us what to do. He’s been wearing the SynergEyes lenses forever and needs a new rx. He is so upset and angry that he wants me to dispute the $45 specialist co-pay from this morning. He is an architect and imagine an architect drawing a set of plans and not being able to see?!???
