I live in Massachusetts and my last day at my last job was yesterday, I have coverage until the end of the month. I have two weeks off before starting a new job on Feb. 15th and I’m going to be visiting family and friends out west with my time off, with whom I’ll be snowboarding for a few days. I have no prescriptions to fill or planned appointments, and anything that might come up short of an emergency I can push to after my new job’s insurance kicks in. However since I will be snowboarding, I definitely need to be covered for any emergencies that come up.
I’ve been researching all morning but frankly I’m getting overwhelmed by information and I can’t decipher what information is relevant to my scenario. I understand the basics of deductibles, out of pocket, etc., but I’m struggling to understand which plans cover me in other states, and what covers ambulance/helicopter rides from the mountain, and hospital stays. I can do COBRA but I’ve heard that’s expensive so I’m trying to find better options.
In sum: looking for a plan to purchase in MA that properly covers me if I take the wrong black diamond, fly into an oak tree and break my fibula in Colorado or Oregon.
Apologies if this is super easy or obvious, I swear I’m good at googling, I’m just overwhelmed at the moment haha. Thank you for your help in advance!
