My wife just switched jobs, sort of unexpectedly (she quit), and there is a 20 day period between the previous healthcare coverage ending and the new coverage kicking in. I was looking into how to best handle this gap and read something regarding COBRA………..that if you are eligible for COBRA from your employer, and since you wouldn’t need to pay the premium for at least 30 days, that you technically wouldn’t need to do anything unless some emergency popped up during the 20 day gap (and if by chance something did happen, we would make the payment).
Am I understanding this correctly? I’m honestly not trying to be shady here, just trying to avoid creating some huge hassle for 20 days of coverage. I’m in Missouri, if this matters. Any advice, confirmation, link to information would be appreciated.
