So my 6 year old son cut his lower lip from a fall. A small cut and non stop bleeding. We ended up in ER as per the advise from our pediatrician… Waited for 3 hours in an in-network hospital in NJ. A plastic surgeon arrived and put 4 stitches. A week later they asked us to come to the Dr office to remove and they did..
Fast forward 5 weeks and we get a bill for 20000 Dollars!!!!!!… Aetna sent a letter that I need to call them back with the details of the same 20K bill as it is considered out-of-network. My out of pocket max for out of network is 10K.
The Dr sends a bill stating that I should sign forms so they can appeal to Aetna to pay as it was an involuntary ER service..
So WTF.. I do have free legal service from my company thru metlaw. Should I start using this service to start suing people OR just have the Dr and Aetna work it out OR anything else??
I did send a nice letter requesting the Dr office to get this sorted stating I have No ability to pay this ridiculous bill with some hints that I will fight it… That I have a perfect Credit and the consequences of this not getting sorted out are going to be horrible.
HOW THE FK you can charge someone 5K per stitch ?????.
