TIA for reading!
I am a 28yo graphic designer living in NYC (zip 10025). My work is pretty steady, and I make between $75-90k before taxes. I need a new health insurance plan when my coverage expires at the end of March. I am in relatively good health, and my only major-ish concern right now is migraines. That said, I outsource a lot of my medical needs to sites/apps like Cove (migraines), Curology (skincare), and Nurx (birth control). Right now I am happy with these services and able to afford them, so I am not sure I necessarily need a plan that will cover expensive migraine treatments, for example.
I do not currently have a PCP I am attached to, so I’m not particularly worried about keeping a particular doctor or practice. I do have a dentist that I intend to keep seeing, though I’m not opposed to getting dental insurance separately.
From what I’ve seen on the NYC marketplace, Bronze plans are in the $600s (though one is closer to $500) and Silvers are $700s-$800s. I do not qualify for subsidies, and am hoping I can get away with something under $750, but I’m also not sure it even makes sense to spend that much if the coverage sucks anyway. (Like, should I just get a bronze for $600 if all the coverage is kind of bad?) The insurance companies I see come up most frequently when I search are Oscar, Emblem, Metroplus, and Empire BCBS, and I find very mixed/mostly negative reviews for all of them. I was leaning towards Oscar but I’m starting to think it’s a lot of cost for bad options.
ANY guidance is much-appreciated. I am just not sure how to weigh the cost of a plan w/ my outside costs like Cove and Nurx. It seems like more options for insurance-less healthcare like Cove etc. pop up every day, and I’m willing to use those as-needed if it makes more sense.
THANK YOU FOR READING!
