Medi-Cal/Covered California — apply by phone or online?

Hi everyone, I’m applying for Covered California/Medi-Cal because I’m aging off of my parent’s insurance at the end of April.

I started the online application (which seemed to be easy to me, but I’m single and have zero dependents, minimal tax things to report other than income as an independent contractor, etc etc). I called Covered CA with a brief question and spoke with an agent who suggested that it would be better to complete the application via phone. He made a remark that it would be much more difficult and that I would be facing issues since I have health insurance at the time of application.

Would anyone be willing to share their experience with applying? Is it in fact better to apply with an agent over the phone?
