Hi all,
Question about the healthcare subsidy. I’ve been unemployed since January, moved states, and enrolled in a marketplace plan in February. I made $1800 in January (last paycheck). I need to make an additional~$11,000 before the end of 2021 in order to not have to pay the subsidy back (and the subsidy is about $400/month). I’m having surgery next week, and after that I’ll be able to work again.
My issue is: when I begin working again, it will be for a company that offers decent health insurance (so I’ll lose the subsidy and terminate my marketplace plan). This is all well and good, but I just want to make sure that I’m not going to have to pay back the subsidy that I’ve already received (~375/month for 6 months or so). Working at this new company will not put me over the top income threshold (I think the top is like $37k or so?) to receive the subsidy. Assuming my 2021 income will overall be, say, $20k, I won’t have to pay anything back just because all of that income came during months that I was receiving insurance from an employer?
Hope this made sense. It has been stressing me out so much.
