Hi everyone, I used to be on a Cigna PPO plan (before the ACA came into effect) but I think Cigna ended that plan and kicked me off. I had to use the exchange (in NY), picked what I thought was a decent plan, but it was almost $1,000 a month, wouldn’t cover the one prescription drug I had been on for years, wouldn’t let me see any of my previous doctors (only the ones that were in the HMO which I didn’t want to see). So I was paying for everything out of pocket in addition to the $1,000 / month premium and just decided to stop paying the premiums and cancel the plan because it is completely useless to me.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a PPO plan in New York as a private self-employed individual? I don’t see any PPO plans on the exchange. I don’t care about cost, I am a fairly high net-worth individual, I just want to be able to see the doctors I want to see and be covered in the event of a catastrophic cost situation (hundreds of thousands of dollars in surgeries, etc).
I try to call up health insurance companies but they just refer me to the exchange.
