Hi, I’m signing up for health insurance through my employer soon. The insurance will be through Aetna in the US. For many years I’ve been on a PPO plan, but I’m thinking of trying out a HDHP plan. My employer offers two tiers of HDHP plans – a green and a grey. The green plan has about a $120 monthly premium with $1500 deductible/$3000 out of pocket max. The grey plan has about $75 premium with $2000 deductible/$6000 out of pocket max. I understand the grey plan has a lower premium because the deductible/out of pocket max is higher, but are there any other cost differences I should be aware of? What I’m most worried about is, for example, the same procedure costing more under the grey plan than the green plan. Has anyone found this to be the case with different tiers of HDHP plans, or should the costs be the same under both (before I reach the deductible)? Thank you
