Hello all, as noted in the title I will be leaving my current job for a new role where I will technically be a contract worker.
Per my papers from my new employer “…Contract Employee will be classified as a W-2 employee for tax purposes.” FWIW I am in FL and my employer will be based in GA, I am 32yrs of age, good health, no pre-existing conditions that I am aware of. Have never had any health issues in the past. Former military, but I am above the income threshold to be eligible for VA coverage and no service related disabilities.
That being said, my new employer DOES offer benefits, but it seems rather steep, especially when compared to my current employer, which I knew going in. Here is what is in my benefits package:
PPO %1,500 HSA $2000 HSA $5000 Kaiser HMO
Employee $165/wkly $140/wkly $91/wkly $151/wkly
My current health coverage is ~$35 a week for my “BCBS HDHP High” plan ($906 YTD), so I am looking at roughly 5x more for health insurance when I start my new job, granted, the salary increase will still mean my take home is more…but I am just trying to see what my options are here instead of taking the first thing that is shown to me.
Does anyone have advice on where I even begin to shop around? Should I shop around? Is there some sort of health share I can do that my be less expensive but still be a good choice for someone like me?
I’m totally lost and would love some help, and would love even more to see more of my $$ coming home with me 🙂
