Hi all,
I posted back in January regarding securing health insurance for our family after my husband lost his job 12/31/20. It was very helpful and we did successfully apply and get enrolled in Michigan Medicaid. I have a few questions and I’ve never spoken to our case manager, despite leaving numerous voice mails, so I’m hoping to get some help here. We are in Michigan and are a family of 4: my husband (m39), myself (f38) and two boys, 3 and 5.
My husband was laid off from his job and his last day was 12/31/20. However, he was paid severance with a check date of 1/15/21 and an amount of $112,000 post tax. I applied for Medicaid at the end of January reporting our income as $0, as my husband did not have another job. They backdated our Medicaid to start 1/1/21, which I was told by the beneficiary helpline while choosing our plan was the normal practice. He currently has an offer for contract work that would earn about $20,000 for a three months, with that being the only planned income for the rest of the year.
How does Michigan Medicaid view the severance? Are we going to get disqualified and have to pay them back when we file our taxes for 2021? How do they view contract work, when our monthly income would be high but our annual income (excluding the severance) would be low? Where can I find information about income limits for Michigan Medicaid?
