Colorado:
I had a common outpatient study nearly a year ago, and the amount owed for the CPT code changed every few months as the hospital resubmitted it to insurance. Weird, but understandable. Finally, the hospital appealed it and Anthem decided to go ahead and double it to the chargemaster price and passed that along to me (high deductible).
My EoB online still says the original price, and I have no physical way to match it to the bill, but Anthem verbally said the higher price is correct. When I asked what was going on, they said the hospital appealed and immediately recommended I file an appeal. The hospital’s bill still doesn’t match the verbal higher price, cause they knocked off 1 penny for “insurance discount”, but I just payed it worried about being sent to collections.
I filed the appeal with Anthem, and they said I would hear from them in 30 days. It’s now been nearly 2 months, and no response. I reached out again via message and nothing. They have record of the appeal with the correct submitted date, but that’s it. I am at a loss at to what to do next.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Edited: the hospital is in-network (spouse is a provider at the hospital and the insurance is purchased from the hospital)
