Does law of new state overwrite my employer-given short-term disability policy?

I work remotely as a salaried employee for a nonprofit, and currently live in Georgia. I am also 5 months pregnant and started this job 3 months ago.

The insurance policy I receive from my employer won’t cover my maternity leave since I will have been working there less than 1 year at the time of birth, and we renewed our insurance policies in August. They however said I can use the short-term disability policy which covers 6 weeks for maternity, of which I think only 4 weeks are 60% paid because there is a 14 day elimination period. And then I can take another 6 weeks unpaid under federal law.

I am moving to Virginia a month or two before the due date and the state recently passed a new law effective as of July 1st 2021 regarding short term disability for maternity.

“Each insurer proposing to issue individual or group accident and sickness insurance policies providing short-term disability income protection coverage whose policies provide coverage for short-term disability arising out of childbirth shall provide coverage for a payable benefit of at least 12 weeks immediately following childbirth for such a disability.

The provisions of this section shall apply to any policy delivered or issued for delivery in the Commonwealth in and after July 1, 2021.”

Could this law apply to me as I will be a Virginia resident at the time of birth and use of the short-term disability policy?
