Hi everybody. My husband is 37, I am 31, we are in the state of Florida.
I am currently employed by a hospital system and I have their insurance which is basically very good coverage so long as I go to providers/physicians/labs/etc that are within my hospital system.
However, my husband and I are trying to conceive, and I am trying to decide if I should switch onto his health insurance through his employer during open enrollment so that (1) I can keep my current primary (who no longer takes my insurance but does take his), (2) so that baby will be on my husband’s insurance and not mine as the premiums would be much less expensive that way, and (3) so that when I change companies next fall after finishing grad school, my husband, myself, and baby wouldn’t experience any gap in insurance coverage while waiting for my insurance to take effect etc. I am not pregnant yet, but could become pregnant at any time.
So I am trying to decide if the switch makes sense, and if there would be any issues with switching insurance if I am pregnant prior to the start of new insurance on January 1? Thanks in advance.
