What if my nearest hospital is out of network?

Got a new job at a health system. Their insurance is good but they only cover their providers in the county we live in. My concern is in regard to emergency. If we call EMS, the closest ER and hospital is out of network. We have an out of network deductible, but obviously would not want to get stuck in the situation of needing admitted, surgery, etc if something were to happen emergently when not within easy distance of their hospital. What exactly happens in this situation? Are we just out of luck and have to pay the out of network price?
