Primary and Other Health Insurance Confusion

So I currently have tricare (husband is retired military). Tricare is fine for me. Cheap, low deductible & maximum. I am fine with it. But it does not cover very much beyond basic medical care. I have been considering getting OHI through either my or husbands job.

If I did, I know tricare would become secondary. But all the options through employers have high deductibles and this is where my confusion begins.

Does it mean I would have to pay $3000 out-of-pocket to meet deductible of employer insurance before it would actually start to cover anything? Would tricare kick in before that or not kick in until after the primary deductible is met? I have never spent $3000 on medical expenses for a whole year and just cannot imagine it.

I mean, I would love to be able to have a CGM and got to chiro, and get massage therapy (doctor ordered) but my bank account is only so big. Tricare will only cover CGM if I am 5 minutes from death. It was always so frustration to have military doctors say, “I know it isn’t covered, but you need ____.” If it is needed, then why isn’t it covered? If it isn’t covered, then it most likely isn’t needed, right? Tricare wants me to be healthy, right? They’d cover it if it was actually needed. Doctors are all just out to scam me because my health insurance company cares about me. right?
