I just started a new job. We have several health insurance plans to choose from with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of which is a HDHP. I have medications that can be very expensive without insurance, so I inquire to see how much drug A, B, and C will cost for a 90 day mail order supply.
(In the past I have gotten screwed over choosing a HDHP because some of my prescriptions ended up being $1,500 for a 90 day supply for 1 drug. Therefore, the non-HDHP would have been a better choice and I would have saved thousands of dollars a year. I’m trying to prevent the same mistake.)
I inquire to my employer’s benefits coordinator who sends me to the insurance company, who can’t help because I haven’t enrolled yet and don’t have a member number/ID. Mail order pharmacy can’t help me for the same reason. I go around and around, provide the name of my employer etc, can’t help. I go back to my employer’s benefits coordinator and ask for the contracted rate for 3 prescriptions, 90 day supply, 100% out of pocket. They’re attempting to figure this out, but I don’t understand how they can’t know what their contracted drug price is. Any advice on how on earth to choose an insurance plan when they can’t even give me the price of drugs? This is ridiculous! Any advice on how to navigate this situation or who to talk to would be great.
