So my doctor prescribed saxenda to help me with my weight loss since I’ve been at a plateau. My health insurance denied the prior authorization since I have no proof I have been on a paid weight loss plan for at least 3 months. Can insurance companies do this? It’s one thing to be denied for not trying another medication first, but they’re expecting me to pay money (I don’t have) to a weight loss plan to prove I’ve dieted. This is not something insurance covers so how can they demand it as a prerequisite to medication? I filed an appeal but I am looking for assistance with where to go from here. Also, I want to specify that my doctor is a nutritionist who specializes in overweight/obesity medication management.
