I switched insurance late last year, and didn’t go in for routine check up early this year because of Covid. I recently moved so decided to switch PCP as well.
Long story short, I had an appointment with the new pcp for a check up. I am in healthcare and works around needles, so I’ve always done STD and Hep C screenings. The PCP prescribed CBC because I have iron deficiency anemia, which my previous PCP had done but not every year.
Long story short, I’m wondering if anyone can help me with the definition of preventive and diagnostic services. I have a document directly from the insurance website listing STD and hep C screening as preventive, but the hospital and the insurance have been adamant that they are diagnostic without a satisfactory explanations.
Thanks for any help. It’s not a huge amount that I can’t afford, but it’s infuriating how opaque and convoluted the system is and it appears that the system has no incentive to help the patients.
