I have been pushing off an appt with my PCP for months because I cannot get a straight answer if she is in network or not. Here are quotes of online responses I have received from the Aetna concierge (but substituting my doctors name as Dr. J)
Received 7/16: “In performing a provider search for your plan network, we show Dr. J at [address] as a network provider.”
Received 7/18: “Dr. J is contracted with Aetna and the provider is part of another network. Your Aetna Member Website will only bring up providers that are part of your network. If you cannot bring up a provider by name, you will have to check with us to see if you can see a particular provider. Our system will show if you can see a provider from a different network. You can see Dr. J. The network the doctor is under is on the list.”
Received today 9/24: “Your request Dr. J does not participate in your Aetna health plan. You can search for an in-network doctor in your secure member website.”
How can she be a network provider, but not participate in my health plan? Am I just not understanding something here, or are they giving me contradictory information?
Dr. J does not appear in the online search directory. But I have also been told on the phone multiple times that she is in network, but one time on the phone that she is not in network. I actually spoke with someone from Aetna on the phone right after this message on 9/24, and they assured me Dr. J is in my network. I am stumped. Help.
