I am 25 and currently covered by Blue Shield of CA as my mom’s dependent through Covered CA. I turn 26 at the beginning of 2021, so I need to find my own health insurance by December 15 to be covered starting the first of the year. I’m looking for a new job to start in January, but I can’t get covered by an employer because I’m currently unemployed. I’m hoping to find the best possible plan for my needs regardless of whether or not it is offered through Covered CA (through which my options are Blue Shield of CA, Health Net, Kaiser, and Western Health Advantage). I’m looking to continue receiving allergy shots, seeing a psychologist and psychiatrist, and filling several prescription medications (some of which are expensive). Does anyone have recommendations for insurance plans/providers in California that have good coverage of allergy shots (immunotherapy), mental/behavioral health care (inpatient and outpatient), and/or prescriptions? I’m hoping to find something other than Blue Shield because I have found their mental health care coverage to be insufficient now that they are contracting it out to Magellan. Please help! Any advice/similar experiences could be useful!
