Had my gallbladder removed and due to complications I went back to the ER. They found I was leaking bile and did not have a specialist to perform the surgery so I was told I would be transported to a different hospital. I was worried about the cost and the nurse said don’t worry your insurance will cover it. I now realize how stupid that was because how would a nurse know my insurance coverage. I was in so much pain that I did not question her. I just got a bill from the ambulance company and they are charging 8500 dollars for a ride that lasted one hour. It says my insurance is paying 2900 and I am now responsible for 5600.00. I am financially crippled and have no way of paying all my medical bills. If I had known this was going to be the bill I would of happily had my husband drive me one hour to another hospital. My in network out of pocket maximum is 2500.00 and out of network maximum is 5000.00. How is this over my maximum out of pocket? Shouldn’t my insurance be covering everything after my maximum out of pocket? Thank you in advance.
