Anyone Familiar with MediCal? Tips?

Just arrived to NoCal a few weeks ago from Texas to stay at a monastery for an indefinite period of time. I’m not working, so no income at this time. I’ve made maybe $12k this year so far.

I have a bronze marketplace plan from Texas but no providers in California accept it.

I had to go to the ER a few days ago for dehydration and the guy told me I’m going to get it covered 100% no problem with this MediCal program.

I’ve been playing phone tag with the hospitals office trying to get signed up and I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to do to ensure I get it. Is it time-sensitive? I don’t want to end up with a $9k hospital bill for some quick bloodwork.

Also I’m from Texas so my expectations are very low. Is mediCal bad in terms of coverage? How much do subsidized plans end up costing monthly for a single person?
