I have a BCBS (Texas if it matters) Blue Advantage HMO plan. I have an appointment with a podiatrist on Monday and I was called and they said I need to call my insurance co. and tell them to change my PCP to the podiatrists name or else I could be charged a couple hundred dollars. They said it’s something to do with HMOs, that the insurance co. won’t bill correctly if the name isn’t changed. I don’t want to change my PCP. Is this just a one time thing? Should I just go to my regular PCP about my foot issue and avoid all this?
