Hi! Never been to this sub before, but I didn’t know where to post this, so please let me know if I’m in the wrong place! I need advice on a very frustrating situation. I’m in North Carolina, using a throwaway because I might need to share some details I don’t want on my main.
So, I got a notification from my PCP informing me of an outstanding bill. Confused, I check the invoice, and see the line “Per your insurance plan, policy premium has not been received”. More confused, I go to check my Blue Cross Blue Shield portal, and find that my policy is inactive as of 6/30, due to non payment of the last two monthly premiums. After calling their customer service, I find out that at some point my autopay failed, and because they received no payment since then, my policy had been cancelled. Since I got my policy through the healthcare marketplace, I was referred to them. I called there, and was told they could put in some kind of request to reinstate coverage, but that it might take 30 days to go through. All of this happened on Monday 8/9.
Now, I understand that even though I had autopay set up, I do have a responsibility to make sure that the money is actually taken from my account each month. However, I also feel like BCBS has some responsibility to let me know if I have a past due payment? Or at the very least, inform me if my policy has been cancelled? Neither of which happened at any point. In fact, the same day I discovered this, I received the usual email from BCBS letting me know my current bill statement was now available. But when I check the portal, there is no new billing statement. My policy is listed as inactive, and there is no way to make a payment of any kind.
As I have a chronic illness, it’s very important that I have some kind of insurance. I had several specialist appointments and multiple prescriptions filled during the month of July, and I am totally unable to pay for those out of pocket. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation? Is there anything I can actually do at this point? I am so goddamn sick of listening to that shitty hold music repeat only to be told there’s nothing they can do for me.
