(Beginner) Do you get only a referral from your primary care physician (pcp)? I am struggling to find a pcp and just look to fix my back asap.

Hello,

I recently moved to a new city and needed to assign a pcp using Anthem website. I choose one i found with a great rating and i called them to make an appoint and let them know i picked their doctor as my pcp. However, they responded that they are fully booked so unable to accommodate me. This occurred 2 more times with another doctors.

My questions are:

Do I actually need to an assigned pcp? Can I just make an appointment with any available Family Medicine doctor and get basic check-ups + referral for a pt or chriopractor? Lastly, how long does a referral usually last (in case I want to change to a different physical therapist after a visit or two…)

This is the first time i picked PPO and I am looking to actively take advantage of my health insurance to its full extent (until now, I only just used vision and dental…).

Thank you

PS.
