For background information I have an HMO through NJ Family Care.
I was previously on UHC but switched last month to Horizon BCBS because the previous provider was not helpful and it was impossible to find doctors when they all took the one I switched to.
However I have surgery in a month 9/09/2021. This surgery is happening with or without insurance but the Surgeon DOES take this one but it means we have to start the authorization process.
That being said my ‘active’ date for this HMO is 9/01/2021. Which means I will be covered on the date of surgery, but authorization would need to start now. Is that even possible? I haven’t received my membership card yet so I don’t even have an ID number to give. Can I call Horizon BCBS and they pull that information?
I’m not really sure if there are steps I can do here to make this work, without delaying the surgery date or if delaying the surgery date is just the best way to go?
